福州是众所周知的榕城，榕树在这里到处可见。在马路旁，在广场上，在院落里，一棵榕树就是一片绿荫，一个绿色世界。
我是今年五月才从武汉迁到福州来的，过去我从未见过榕树。第一次在福州见到榕树，就被这巨大的热带植物所吸引。
在我居住的院子里，就有一棵巨大的榕树。我可以经常仔细地欣赏她：粗壮的主干，好似一根擎天巨柱，把天都撑了起来，主干上长满了树枝，椭圆型的绿叶在风中摇曳着，将榕树那筋脉突兀的树干完全笼罩住了，从远处望去，他仿佛是一把遮天蔽日的巨伞。她的树枝上长出一条条门帘似的寄生根，这些寄生根会慢慢生长，最后钻进泥土里，渐渐长粗，把以前的主干包裹住，成为新的枝干，看上去，好像是这棵树上缠满了青藤。

福州市升山灵岩禅寺位于福州市晋安区新店镇赤星村境内升山上，据《三山志》、《闽都记》等古志史的记载:“世传越王勾践时，此山自会稽飞来”，故名飞来峰。晋太康年间，任敦在这里修道白日羽化升天，即“一人得道，鸡犬升天”。唐天宝六年（747年），唐玄宗“以仙公之上升，诏改升山”，御封飞来峰为升山，现存“任公台”、“仙升岩”等古迹，民间有任敦“种杏立果”、“食枳叶染饭成仙”的传说。唐宋八大家之一的曾巩《游升山》诗曰：“修竹长松十里阴，任敦烧药洞门深。独窥全版惊人语，能到清霞出世心。鸡犬亦随云外去，蓬瀛何必海中寻。丹楼碧阁唐朝寺，锡吹香花满归林。”《三山志》载：“以其西岩石间时闻鼓磬声，故称灵岩”，故又名升山灵岩寺。
升山灵岩寺始建于南北朝陈天嘉三年（562年），为福州市最早的寺院之一。《三山志》载：“升山有元沙寺（又称玄沙寺），本安国禅师塔院也。”《闽都记》载：“升山灵岩寺升山，去郡十里而遥。陈天嘉三年创寺，旧号飞山。元沙寺即其址也。”唐、宋两代极盛时有僧尼千人，其中有一部份还是日本、高丽等国赶到“玄沙寺”朝圣的僧侣，出国师“宗一安国”禅师(即玄沙师备(835～908年)，俗姓谢，闽王王审知曾拜师备为师，晚年回福州，结屋在北门外玄沙山(今福州郊区新店镇升山)，称“玄沙寺”，成为“法眼宗”的发源地。师备有《大小语录》传世，闽王王审知为师备逝世尤其悼惜，赐号宗一大师，立塔纪念。后唐长兴元年(930年)，新闽王王延钧也为师备树碑纪念。玄沙从《楞严经》入道，识见尤属特别，化行尤广。继有罗汉桂琛（867—928），门众推为上座，大弘玄沙之教，从桂琛得法的有文益（885—958），后为南唐元宗迎住于金陵报恩禅院，死后谥法眼，衍成法眼宗）。历代名僧倍出，被冠以“灵岩显圣兮闽中宝刹第一”的尊称，有“未有涌泉，先有灵岩”的说法。
